  • Abstract: The garden-path sentence is a paradigm for studying cognitive mechanisms. This study has found that both humans and artificial intelligence encounter difficulties in garden-path sentences. Humans face these difficulties due to limited working memory, while artificial intelligence relies on probabilistic choices based on big data. This research provides a theoretical foundation for further investigation into humans’ cognitive processing patterns and for the improvement of the next generation of artificial intelligence to make its cognitive models true-to-human, and for a presentation of a novel comparative research paradigm for studying human and artificial intelligence.
