Abstract:
To address the issue of crucible corrosion by magnesium alloys during melting, this study investigated the effect of hot-dip aluminizing on the interfacial reaction between 20 steel and AZ91D magnesium alloy using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Experimental results revealed that while no distinct reaction layer formed at the interface between the AZ91D magnesium alloy melt and 20 steel, the bonding was intimate. Furthermore, the Al₅Fe₂ compound layer formed on the hot-dip aluminized 20 steel surface exhibited no significant interfacial reaction with the AZ91D melt. Consequently, the Al₅Fe₂ layer effectively protects the 20 steel substrate.
