Abstract:
Based on trauma theory, this article focuses on the core feature of trauma - “ineffability”, and takes Wu Qishi’s “Everything I Never Told You” and Wu Huiming’s “Bone” as research texts to explore how trauma affects characters’ cognition and behavior in a “silent” way and triggers collective silence in families. Research shows that when trauma exceeds the limit of language capacity, both individuals and families fall into a profound state of aphasia. Silence becomes the only tragic defense and expression mechanism when facing unspeakable pain, profoundly confirming the unspeakable nature of trauma.
