Abstract:
From Bourdieu’s sociological perspective, elements such as field, capital, and the translator’s habitus
can exert an impact on translation, and the development of sociology guides us to explore the text from the
perspective of a broad social context. Jia Pingwa’s Happy Dreams is a bitter-sweet modern Chinese dream, which
was the crystallization of painstaking efforts and was said to have conceived for five years, added and deleted
several times, incisively portraying the original appearance of vernacular literature. Translated by Han Bin, a
Sinologist, Happy Dreams was published in 2017 by Amazon Crossing, which is a model initiated and translated
by Western Sinologist, and published by Western academic publishers. The paper is grounded on Bourdieu’s
sociological theory, attempting to analyze Harman’s English translation of Happy Dreams in terms of field, capital
and habitus.
