Abstract:
The translator’s subjectivity plays a crucial role in the translation process by understanding and grasping the essence of the original text and presenting it, and the feminist view of translation with distinct gender characteristics provides a new perspective for the study of translator’s subjectivity. From a feminist perspective, this paper compares and analyzes two Chinese versions of Kahlil Gibran’s poetry collection The Prophet by female translator Bing Xin and male translator Li Jiazhen, and finds that Bing Xin displays a delicate and soft feminine style in three aspects: text selection, translator’s preface, and translation. This study highlights the great contribution made by Bing Xin as a female translator in the Sino-Arab cultural exchange, while making translation criticism more diverse and positively contributing to the construction of female translators’ identity.
