Abstract:
This study examined the mechanism through which sense of power influences sexual refusal cognitive bias from a cognitive-process perspective, and further tested the moderating role of token resistance belief. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 496 adult heterosexual men. Sense of power, sexual interest perception, interpretation bias, anticipated behavior, and token resistance belief were measured. Correlation analysis, serial mediation analysis, and moderated mediation analysis were used to test the relationships among these variables. The results showed that sense of power positively predicted anticipated behavior. Sexual interest perception and interpretation bias jointly played a serial mediating role in the association between sense of power and anticipated behavior. Token resistance belief significantly moderated the effects of sense of power on sexual interest perception, interpretation bias, and anticipated behavior. Further analyses indicated that under high levels of token resistance belief, sense of power indirectly predicted anticipated behavior through interpretation bias and through the serial path from sexual interest perception to interpretation bias; under low levels of token resistance belief, these indirect effects were not significant. These findings suggest that trait power may increase the risk associated with sexual refusal cognitive bias by shaping the perception and interpretation of cues in sexual interactions, and that token resistance belief is an important boundary condition in this process.
