Abstract:
The mental health problems of college students are becoming increasingly severe, and traditional mental health education models have shown limitations in addressing deep-seated issues such as loss of meaning and psychological inflexibility. As a representative of the third wave of behavioral therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) takes promoting psychological flexibility as its core goal. Through its six core processes—acceptance, cognitive defusion, contact with the present moment, self-as-context, values clarification, and committed action—ACT provides a new theoretical framework for college mental health education. Art therapy, with its non-verbal expressive qualities, can effectively compensate for the limitations of language-based interventions. Starting from the theoretical affinity between ACT and art therapy, this paper systematically elaborates the theoretical logic of their integration. Based on this foundation, it designs a group art therapy curriculum covering six art forms corresponding to the six core processes of ACT, and explores its application pathways and practical value in the college context. The aim is to provide a theoretical reference and practical model for the transformation of college mental health education from “passive intervention” to “active growth”.
