Abstract:
This case report describes the application of the Yikong Skills for the psychological correction of stealing impulse in a female inmate with bipolar disorder. The client presented with physical and psychological symptoms such as chest tightness, shoulder pain, and persistent depressive mood, and impulsive stealing behavior, which recurred even after being imprisoned. Following the principle of “addressing only one symptom at a time” in Yikong Skills, three Yikong sessions were conducted sequentially targeting chest tightness, shoulder pain, and depressive mood, together with initial interview, closing interview, and follow-up, totaling six interviews. The results showed that the impact scores of the three target symptoms decreased from 9.5 to 3 (chest tightness), 7.5 to 0 (shoulder pain), and 7 to 2 (depressive mood), indicating significant improvement or clinical remission. After the intervention, the client no longer exhibited stealing behaviors, showed stable mood, improved interpersonal relationships, and performed well in the prison setting. This case demonstrates that the Yikong Skills can effectively alleviate somatic and emotional symptoms in inmates with bipolar disorder, reduce the risk of addictive behavior relapse, and is operable and safe without relying on in-depth exploration of root causes.
