Investigating the Effect of AI Literacy on the Quality of Technical Translation

  • Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly seen as a collaborator for translators. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence on whether AI literacy can predict the quality of English-Chinese scientific translations. This mixed-methods study investigates how AI literacy influences the quality of scientific translation, with a focus on its impact on terminology accuracy, fluency, and stylistic coherence. The experiment involved student translators (n=29) who major in translation instead of computer science, translating two texts on computer science with high and low text complexity. Participants could choose whether to use AI at their own free will. Their AI literacy is quantified by the time spent on AI tools, usage frequency, and the number of AI tools used. Quantitative data is corroborated by the Think-Aloud Protocol (Jääskeläinen, 2000) and the postexperiment interviews. The quality is assessed using Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM) (Lommel et al., 2014) by two qualified raters. Our findings show that 1) AI literacy significantly increases the quality of the conceptual scientific passage, but not on the operational scientific passage; 2) student translators with high AI literacy perceive AI as an indispensable tool for high-quality scientific translation, while participants with low AI literacy show distrust. Ultimately, we concluded that AI can serve as an effective tool supplementing the translator’s lack of domain knowledge. Nevertheless, the translators’ competence in bilingual knowledge remains of paramount importance in producing accurate, fluent, and stylistically coherent scientific texts. Therefore, we recommend that AI literacy be incorporated into the technical sub-competence of the current mainstream translation competence models.

  • Abstract: This study analyzes the competency characteristics of social workers through behavioral event interviews with front-line social workers. It connects the teaching of social work ethics with the cultivation of competency characteristics for master’s students in social work, taking competency characteristics as the training goal for postgraduates. In the teaching of social work ethics, educational reforms are implemented by establishing the core socialist values as an important basis for social work values, regarding individual dignity and value as the fundamental goal of social work, and adopting heuristic teaching to promote student participation. This teaching reform provides an empirical reference for cultivating social work professionals with strong practical capabilities.

Research on the Regulatory Mechanism of Twist on Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition and Vasculogenic Mimicry in Human Gastric Cancer Tissues

  • Abstract: Objective: To explore the promoting effect of Twist on the formation of vasculogenic mimicry (VM), so as to enrich and improve the theory of vasculogenic mimicry. Methods: For gastric cancer tissues and normal gastric tissues, observe the expression status of Twist, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) marker proteins (including E-cadherin and Vimentin), and VM marker CD34 - PAS. Analyze the correlations between Twist, EMT marker proteins and the clinicopathological features of gastric cancer. Conduct in-depth research on the associations between VM and EMT marker proteins as well as between Twist and EMT marker proteins, and then verify the situation that Twist promotes the formation of VM by promoting EMT in gastric cancer. Results: There are statistical differences between EMT marker proteins and VM, and Twist has a certain correlation with EMT marker proteins. Conclusion: Twist may induce the occurrence of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in gastric cancer cells and promote the formation of vasculogenic mimicry (VM) in gastric cancer.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Studies on English Interpretation Teaching in Mainland China Based on CiteSpace (2001-2021)

  • Abstract: This paper employed CiteSpace to study the English interpretation teaching from 2001 to 2021 through bibliometric analysis, and the data was collected from CSSCI and China National Knowledge Index (CNKI) . The paper mainly focuses on: cooperation status of institutions and researchers; the current and potential research trend of interpretation teaching; the cross-disciplinary integration and research methods; the research gap and suggestions. It is found that the cooperation among institutions and researchers need to be strengthened in English interpretation; and the combination of English interpretation and other disciplines shows a state of wide horizontal span but not deep vertical research.
