Abstract:
Discourse markers have long been an important topic in linguistic scholarship. Research on their functions has largely focused on their discourse-structuring functions and on everyday talk. Less attention has been paid to the interpersonal functions of discourse markers in institutional talk. This paper centers on the discourse marker “ha” as a case to explore interpersonal functions of discourse markers in doctor–patient talk, with a particular focus on the redressive function. We argue that effective use of discourse markers can reduce friction in institutional relationships, promote positive communication, and mitigate the pressures arising from the differences in the participants’ institutional identities in such settings.
话语标记语的研究是近年来语言学领域的一个重要课题。关于其功能方面的研究,大多数集中于话语组织功能以及日常会话的研究,对于话语标记语在机构会话中人际功能的研究较少。本文以“哈”为例,分析话语标记语在医患会话中的人际补偿功能。本研究认为,有效地使用话语标记语能够调整机构会话中的人际关系,促进良性交往,消减交际双方因机构身份差异对人际关系产生的压力和负面影响。
