  • Abstract: Continuation writing, a comprehensive task that integrates reading and writing in the new English National College Entrance Examination, requires students to extend a given story in a way that maintains consistency with the original text in plot, emotion, and theme. This task places high-order demands on students’ abilities in discourse interpretation, logical construction, and creative expression, while also presenting new challenges to the teaching of English reading and writing in senior high schools. Using the continuation writing question of 2025 New College Entrance Examination ((Volume I) as an example, this paper examines how foreshadowing and echo are constructed through elements such as objects, settings, actions, characters, emotions, and themes. Furthermore, it proposes a three-stage teaching strategy — “Situational Encounter; Plot Rethinking; Thematic Anchoring” — designed to guide students in identifying textual foreshadowing and applying echo techniques effectively in their writing. The strategy aims to help students achieve coherence in plot development, logical consistency, emotional resonance, and thematic depth in their continuation writing. 读后续写是新高考英语中融合阅读与写作的综合性题型,要求续写内容与原文在情节、情感、主题上保持统一,既对学生的语篇解读、逻辑建构与创作表达提出了高阶要求,也对高中英语读写教学提出了新的要求。本文以2025年新高考I卷英语读后续写试题为案例,探究伏笔与照应在物件、环境、动作、性格、情感及主题等方面的具体呈现,进而构建“初见情境—再思情节—锚定主旨”的三阶教学策略,引导学生精准捕捉伏笔线索,在续写中完成巧妙照应,有助于学生在续写中实现情节连贯、逻辑自洽、情感契合与主题升华的目标。
