  • Abstract: The master’s thesis is a key indicator for evaluating the quality of Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs in Subject English, with topic selection being the most critical step in the writing process. This study analyzes 108 full-time M.Ed. (Subject English) theses from University X between 2022 and 2024. Using statistical and textual analysis, it aims to reveal the characteristics and existing problems in thesis topic selection and to propose targeted recommendations for improvement. The findings indicate that current topic selection suffers from several limitations: (1) a lack of diversity in research types, with a heavy concentration on action research; (2) a narrow focus on junior and senior high school students as research subjects, with a significant lack of attention to teacher groups; (3) an imbalance in the choice of lesson types, predominantly centered on reading and writing instruction, while neglecting listening and speaking skills; (4) a limited scope of research content, which primarily addresses students' academic performance, learning strategies, and psychological factors, while overlooking external variables such as classroom environment, teacher support, and instructional materials. To enhance the quality of thesis topic selection, this paper suggests that graduate students should solidify their theoretical foundations and cultivate independent inquiry skills. Furthermore, it is recommended that research perspectives be broadened to diversify lesson types, subjects, and variables. Supervisors should update their pedagogical approaches and strengthen their connection to frontline teaching practices. Finally, educational institutions ought to optimize their curriculum, enhance research methodology training, and create practical platforms and conditions for students to conduct practice-oriented research. 学位论文是衡量教育硕士(学科英语)培养质量的关键环节,而选题则是论文写作的重中之重。本文以X大学2022—2024三年的108篇全日制学科英语教育硕士学位论文为研究对象,通过统计与文本分析,旨在揭示学位论文选题的特点与存在的问题,并提出针对性改进建议。研究发现,当前论文选题研究类型不均衡,主要集中于行动研究;研究对象高度聚焦学生群体,对教师群体的关注严重不足;课型选择上严重失衡,阅读与写作教学主导,而听力、口语等课型关注不够;研究内容单一,多关注学生学业成绩、学习策略和心理因素,对课堂环境、教师支持等外部环境变量探讨较少。为提升选题质量,本文建议:研究生应夯实理论基础,培养自主探究能力;选题视角需进一步拓展,丰富研究课型、对象与变量,实现“百花齐放”;导师应更新指导理念,加强与一线教学实际的连接;培养单位则应优化课程体系,加强研究方法训练,并为学生创造深入实践的研究平台与条件。
