From “Academic Tutoring” to “Mental Companionship”: The Reshaping of Youth Roles and Value Co‑creation in Community Volunteer Services from the Perspective of Positive Psychology

  • Abstract: Against the dual backdrop of the deepening “Double Reduction” policy and the nuclearization of family structures, contemporary adolescents have explicit and urgent needs for emotional support, social connection, and holistic development in their after-school lives. Consequently, the traditional community “academic tutoring” model is undergoing a paradigm shift. The role of youth volunteers is naturally transitioning from “task performers” to “the mental companions” and “the growth facilitators.” This paper employs positive psychology and social-emotional learning theories as its fundamental analytical frameworks to systematically and hierarchically elucidate the internal logic, practical pathways, and social value of this role evolution. The connotation of volunteer service has evolved from mere knowledge transmission to a deep integration of emotional support, strength cultivation, and relationship building. Leveraging their unique intergenerational affinity and innovative thinking, youth volunteers proactively establish secure attachment relationships and design flow experience activities. Thus, they become an excellent complement to the formal education system and genuinely awaken adolescents’ internal drive for growth. More notably, considering the heterogeneity of communities (i.e., socioeconomic status, cultural diversity), the paper objectively discusses various challenges involved in service design. Using cutting-edge projects like EMPOWER as concrete examples, it proposes a systematic supportive ecosystem construction plan where modular training systems, data-driven assessment tools, adaptive project design, and compliant digital platforms are interconnected and mutually reinforcing. The conclusion is compelling: positive development-oriented youth community volunteer service is not only an innovative practice addressing the demands of modernizing social governance but also a tangible pathway for youth to realize self-worth, cultivate civic character, and facilitate community “value co-creation.” Therefore, it presents a replicable model with implications for both personal growth and societal progress. 在“双减”政策深化、家庭结构核心化的双重背景下,当代青少年课后生活对情感支持、社会连接、全人发展都有十分明确、迫切的需要,故而传统社区“学业辅导”模式正经历范式革新,青年志愿者的角色正在从“任务执行者”逐步向“心灵陪伴者”和“成长促进者”转变。因此本文以积极心理学及社会情感学习理论为基本分析框架,系统、有层次地厘清其角色演进的内在逻辑、实践路径及社会价值:志愿服务的内涵已经从单纯的知识传递,发展到情感支持、优势培育、关系建构三者的深度融合。青年志愿者借助其特有的代际亲和力及创新思维,主动构建安全依恋关系,设计心流体验活动,由此成为正规教育体系极好的补充,也真正唤起青少年内在的成长动力。更难得的是,文章还结合社区异质性的特点(即社会经济地位、文化多样性),客观地讨论服务设计所涉诸种挑战,并以EMPOWER等前沿项目为具体范例,提出模块化培训体系、数据化评估工具、适应性项目设计、合规数字平台彼此衔接、互为支持的系统性支持生态构建方案,最终得出具有说服力的结论:以积极发展为导向的青年社区志愿服务既是应对社会治理现代化需求的创新实践,也是青年实现自我价值、培育公民品格、促成社区“价值共创”的切实路径,因而也是个人成长与社会进步都可以借鉴、移植的可复制范式。
