  • Abstract: Based on the author’s nearly two decades of psychological counseling practice and eight years of systematic cultivation grounded in traditional practices, this paper attempts to reinterpret and reconstruct the practical value of the concepts of “non-action” (Wu Wei) and “knowing the constant” (Zhi Chang) from Chinese traditional culture within the framework of modern psychology. The author posits that the professional efficacy of a counselor depends not only on technical proficiency but is more deeply rooted in their profound recognition of and respect for the natural rhythm of life (“the Constant”). This paper makes a clear distinction between “non-action” and “inaction”, as well as between “impulsive intervention against the natural rhythm of life” (Wang Zuo) and “conscious action” (You Wei), highlighting their essential differences. It further proposes that “knowing the Constant” is the core competency enabling counselors to navigate the creative pendulum swing between intervention and accompaniment. Drawing on clinical cases, the article elucidates the path to achieving “knowing the Constant” through selfcultivation. The aim is to provide theoretical insights and practical pathways for developing a more culturally adaptive, profound, and effective localized model of psychological counseling.
