English learning; Virtual-Tuber; Communicative context
Abstract:
It is a reality that Chinese students lack an English context, but the Internet enables them to experience foreign daily life, exercise listening and speaking skills and foster cross-cultural understanding. Just like chasing idols, the youth of today love the Virtual Tubers because of their looks, voice, performances or personalities, etc. Furthermore, the rise of social media and digital platforms has opened up new avenues for English learning. Allowing Virtual Tubers in class may be helpful to solve the problems Chinese youth face today, including their inarticulate spoken English or lack of interest in English. This study is an attempt to propose the idea of inviting some Virtual Tubers to an English class, and I will discuss its feasibility by using some relevant theories.
